What brought you to Vaco? What drew your interest?
The good thing about Vaco is they hold similar values as I hold. Vaco is keenly aware that the tools for handling large amounts of data and doing analytics are quite possibly advancing more rapidly than any other technology field today. With better tools, comes better understanding of how we should be doing analytics and how we should use the resulting information, all of which is evolving extremely fast with great potential in Managed Services and workflow consulting.
Why should anyone choose Vaco SF for Managed Services/Contingent Workforce?
Looking back at my career with fresh eyes, I now realize I love Managed Services because it makes so much sense. I studied engineering and spent decades in Financial Services. After that, I worked on data processing for a number of startups and wealth management platforms. Why, since I had worked in financial services and worked with data, did it not occur to me earlier I might like managed services? Now if you needed any more convincing arguments about the excitement in data , analytics and being in managed services , there is the media to proclaim that it is the most interesting job of the 21st century!
What’s the toughest business decision that you’ve ever made at this point in your career?
I find the toughest business decision at this point in my career is to think about news ways of making decisions. Finding consensus can be hard. But in my opinion, taking the time to define the problems, listening actively, then taking new approaches to business decision making is a critical success factor that Vaco embraces. For example, “Big Data is data that is so large that its volume becomes a problem in its own right.” Not only understanding the data or how to make predictions based on the data, but the very fact that there’s so much of it that even something as simple as calculating interest rates requires specialized technology. That’s one of the things that set data science apart from statistics.
What’s the best thing about working at Vaco?
Vaco embraces a diverse workplace full of people from a spectrum of different cultures and backgrounds. The Vaco culture influences the way work is accomplished and affects that way in which individuals and Vaco / Client teams interact with each other. I appreciate and like the approach out work is accomplished and how we fulfill our responsibilities, the way we approach challenges, problems and constructive criticism, deal with conflict and create and maintain relationships within Vaco and with customers.
