Re: Maui Wildfires & Vaco San Francisco Solidarity Statement

Dear Vaconians and Valued Partners across the Vaco Network,

In light of the recent and historic wildfires in Maui, Hawaii we at Vaco San Francisco would like to send our most sincere condolences, thoughts, and prayers to all those impacted by this event. We understand how serious the tragic loss of life and property will reverberate through the lives of those who have called Maui home for generations. Vaco San Francisco humbly stands in solidarity with the peoples of Maui.

Additionally, Vaco San Francisco and its Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) Office recognizes and acknowledges the land stewardship of native peoples in Maui and the socioeconomic and political context of this event. We support the inalienable human rights of said peoples and their right to re-build their homes, businesses, and communities uninterrupted by predatory corporate interests during this most vulnerable time. Further, we support their return to a healthy, safe, and happy existence that is equivalent to or greater than that prior to this tragic event.

Lastly, if you are a member of the Vaco family or family-network, and have been impacted by this event and are in need of support we ask that you reach out to the Maui Strong Resource Hub. Please share the link to the Maui Strong Resource Hub (mauistrong.hawaii.gov) with your staff, friends, and family to ensure that resources are available to those who need them. You can also gain assistance internally by contacting our Vaco Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and/or visiting the Wellbeing Events Calendar for additional resources. Further support is also available through the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) Office at mgraham@vaco.com.

Warmest regards,

Dr. Akhil Graham
